The 1984 season marked the Hawks' first taste of postseason action as they finished fourth with a 13-11 record after the Hawks make their first in-season import change, sacking seven-footer Dave McGuire and signing for NBA forward Marlon Redmond, who scores a then club-record 45 points on debut after only arriving in Wollongong earlier in the day.
Under coach Charlie Ammit, and with the return of playmaking genius of captain Gordie McLeod, the Hawks reached the playoffs for the first time in their history. Although they lost in the elimination final to Newcastle, the season was a significant milestone for the club.
The Snakepit undergoes a facelift and two new courts are built (Still known as Court 1 & 2 today).
