In 1995, the Hawks posted a slightly improved 14-12 record and made another playoff appearance, this time advancing to a best-of-three quarterfinals series against South East Melbourne.
Despite a valiant effort, the Hawks were defeated 1-2 in the series.
The season was also notable for being coach Alan Black's last with the team as he departed to join the Sydney Kings, taking Melvin Thomas with him. This transition marked the end of a significant era for the club.
It also marked the arrival of Glen Saville, a versatile forward with exceptional defensive skills and leadership potential, Saville quickly became an essential part of the team. His arrival signalled the start of the most illustrious career in the club's history.
